Millennium Legacy: 2000s

Even though time keeps flowing, the fashion of the 2000s continues to influence us and is coming to campus in February! Our party, organized by our school students Elif Akyeşilmen and Elif Özdemir, will make a mark on the school!

So, what were the 2000s about?

The best way to understand the colorful, freedom-loving, and individual perspectives of the millennium generation, who took their first steps into the digital world, might be to take a look at the unforgettable fashion of the 2000s. This trend that shook Hollywood was not limited to a certain segment but had influenced the entire world. The fact that we are wearing similar pieces again, either unconsciously or deliberately, after years have passed, shows us the power of that era.

Starting with low-rise jeans that are synonymous with the 2000s, many people today may be hesitant about low-rise pants, but 20 years ago, they were key pieces for stylish appearances. Flare pants and wide-leg pants, preferred by men as well, never left the shop windows. They were so loved that it became quite popular among Hollywood stars to appear on the red carpet wearing jeans under dresses. Sometimes, crop tops or “baby tees”  which fit the body more than regular t-shirts but still allow for comfortable movement, were paired with them.

Young people who followed fashion by layering sometimes completed their combinations by wearing a short-sleeved t-shirt under strappy dresses or a “bolero” over dresses. Bolero was a piece that fit every setting for them. It was quite common to wear it while hanging out with friends during the day or attending special events.

Wearing accessories was another way to show off their style. They would not be seen without their large earrings, mostly hoops. But accessories for them didn’t stop with just a pair of earrings. They wore ties, scarves around their necks; thick belts if one wasn’t enough; colorful transparent glasses…

Their crazy hairstyles should not be forgotten. They achieved striking looks by combining braids and buns with different tying styles. They added more fun by wearing “colorful hair extensions. Different styles of hats, hair bands, and bandanas were essentials for these youngsters.

To delve into this breeze, take a look at what the popular girl of the 2000s, Paris Hilton, the princess of pop music, Britney Spears, and X-Tina, aka Christina Aguilera, wore. After all, we are still carrying this legacy.
